Jānis day celebrations again

Good lord, what’s a going on? Covid numbers are through the roof. Just as well we didn’t give too much time of day to that zero covid strategy and instead let Kate Bingham and the VTF crack on, eh? It’s all these blokes in the pub watching football!
I took a walk up to town, first time for ages and had a mosey about the Portrait Gallery - it’s not fully open but they’ve rearranged and reinterpreted some of the permanent collection. Slavery and imperialism much more prominent but not so much that you feel continually scolded. I was actually after the famous portrait of Thomas Cochrane whose biography I’ve just started. I found the picture. It wasn’t him.
An afternoon looking after a very lively little charge, mainly on the beach, while the SK was off with her chums at the movies.
Then, to the Diggers! First time for ages, and was I greeted like the returning hero? I was nutt! Only MrT showed up - the rest were probably feart they’d get press ganged into my next expedition. And typical MrT, I said I was planning a trip to Loch Drumbuie in August and it was the one place he’d been to on a trip in the 70s with workmates. And even more typically he particularly remembered it as he, errrr, “pulled" one of the other crew members at that very spot. Indeed, it was like Heineken then.
And even later, the Latvian midsummer celebrations on the beach.
