48 50
Locks and gates on British canals are all numbered clearly, in a separate sequence for each canal. So long as you can remember which canal he/she is on, a boater, knowing the number of the nearest gate form lock, can readily identify exactly where they are, using a map book specially produced for the canals.
That being so, having lock 48 at bridge 50 might confuse a stupid person.
