Learning To Fly

At the summer cottage verandah we heard some frantic shrieking. It turned out to be the last fieldfare kid of the nest that had dropped from the plan beneath the nest. it was balancing on the grapevine and seemed quite afraid. While we were discussing who would help it, it managed to manoeuvre itself back to the plank. It then proceeded to the other end of the plank and that is where I took this photo. I then had to leave to put some firewood under the water cauldron. When I got back I was told that the kid had taken the leap, flapped down to the ground with some stumbling. It then proceeded walking on the ground and the mother fieldfare also turned up to follow the kid's progress from a branch. A happy end :-)
