Mar's Wark
The façade is all that remains of John Erskine, Earl of Mar's, townhouse. Construction began in the 1560s or 70s. The Earls of Mar were appointed by David II as hereditary keepers of Stirling Castle. The building fell into disrepair after it was damaged in the 1745-6 rising.
Today there were quite a few visitors admiring the building and in particular the impressive gargoyles. I was lucky to get a blip without anyone in front of it.
I was walking up round the castle in frankly rather gloomy weather. But as the afternoon has gone on it's become slightly warmer and sunnier. I believe that's the trend - hooray.
Schools are on holiday now. We're still planning a short getaway next week. Hope your weekend is going well.
