Eyesore or Necessity

Have over the past weeks watched the erection of these two masts which I can only presume are for mobile phones and the like and now that they are up I am wondering if they could not have found a more appropriate place for them.

They figure highly on my way home from work and ruin what I always thought was a welcoming view. There were masts here before but never this high and they never actually broke the horizon so I did not really take much notice.

I suppose as we strive for technology to become faster and more available then things like this will crop up everywhere. I wonder why nobody has thought to make them tree shaped.
