People watching
Most of the day spent on DIY in the soon-to-be cupboard - the window frame needs a lot of some attention before it can be painted.
Some people-watching after lunch while MrM and I did the Weekend crossword (not one of our best efforts).
Sometimes I think that someone like Alan Bennett would like sitting in our living room, peering through the two windows and observing the people who pass by. The town was thronged with visitors today, even though it was particularly cold and dreich. Lots of local people out too, doing their shopping. Most of the locals we know by sight, and they're all too well-aware that the weather system here has a mind of its own, and often fails to conform to the forecast. The majority of walkers, cyclists and seasoned campers come prepared for all eventualities, and most were well kitted out with waterproofs and sturdy boots, like the woman in the Blip. Then there are the 'interesting others', especially this year with its reluctant 'staycation-ers', and city dwellers searching for a more rural abode. Beach-ready bodies, persisting with sleeveless tops and shorts despite the goose pimples. Women in their holiday dresses and sandals, shivering under umbrellas. Parents with offspring in tow, realising that there's nothing at all for children to do in the town. (Nothing's changed - it was the same when I visited with two small children almost 30 years ago!) Men in shiny shoes and overcoats, standing out like sore thumbs as they peer through the estate agent's window...
Some time soon (hopefully) MrM and I will be tourists somewhere as yet undecided. I wonder who'll be looking out of their window, indulging in some people watching...
ION, Matt Hancock has finally resigned as Health Secretary. Not because of his many blunders over the past year, or because Johnson sacked him, but after images and CCTV footage of him groping (sorry BBC, but that's not just a kiss) and canoodling with his 'aide' surfaced. It happened in May, and breached the social distancing rules that he was urging everyone to follow.
