Boat trip.
A lovely day today cruising down the river Torridge and from Bideford to Lundy island. The 2 hour each way journey was made pleasant by the constant sunshine despite a moderate south easterly breeze.
Dolphins shepherded us for part of the journey and I spotted a few shearwaters skimming over the sea, a few seals lolloped in the harbour as we docked.
On the hike around the island S and I spotted dozens of wheatears, stonechats, guillemots, many others and an array of wildflowers. I had wanted to see some puffins which nest on grassy banks on the western side of the small island, we were rewarded by a clear view although from a fair distance so no photos of them. A picnic lunch was enjoyed before the stomp back towards the Marisco tavern and some free non alcoholic beverages in the beer garden whilst enjoying the antics of two hens and the resident sparrow population scavenging for anything edible.
A beautiful day and well worth the trip if you are in the area.
