Not A Windjammer In Sight, And Burnt Clams

Our "clever" plans for a delicious lunch by the sea rather fell by the wayside today.  This is the first of several "Windjammer Days" here in Boothbay Harbor -- an annual celebration of those beautiful old sailing vessels of days gone by.  We thought it would be a swell idea to drive to Lobsterman's Wharf in East Boothbay, and pick up a fried clam lunch to go.  Then we would drive down to Ocean Point, where we have had wonderful views of the windjammers in times past.

Well, Lobsterman's Wharf is nowhere near what it used to be.  For fifty years, I've enjoyed countless delicious meals there, but a couple of years ago, it was sold to new people who demolished the old wharf, and built a very temporary "food truck" like replacement.  The line to order was long and slow, and the wait for the food to be ready felt like an eternity.  On to Ocean Point, where we found a nice spot to park and enjoy our feast ... only to discover upon opening the bags that the clams were burned!  They were basically inedible!  On top of that tragedy, there was not one windjammer to be seen.  The surf was still beautiful to watch come crashing in to shore, though.  So that's what you get for today's picture -- much more attractive than a pile of greasy, burned shellfish!
