Traverse Bay Sunrise
Last evening after my uncle Dick’s funeral, we drove north to Traverse City, Michigan, where we are staying for 2 days. I was up early this morning so I went for a walk and enjoyed the sunrise. Our hotel is close to the lake - this is East Grand Traverse Bay. There is also a West Grand Traverse Bay and both lead into Lake Michigan. In between is the Old Mission Peninsula. My uncle had a small cottage on the peninsula for many years and as a very young Methodist minister he oversaw the building of a small Methodist church there, replacing the original chapel.
This afternoon the whole family drove up to that same church for the burial. More memories were shared. It was both a sad and a happy time. Someone brought a bag of ice-cream which would have pleased Dick - he was known for his great love of ice-cream!
A few of us went to get a picnic lunch at a deli and took it to Bowers Harbour to eat it while we enjoyed looking at the big boats. See Extra photo. The collage also shows a picture of a ‘Cool Bus’ - that’s what it says on the front of it. It’s owned by the church. I think it would be a ‘Cool Campervan Bus’ - how I’d love something like that converted into a camper to drive around the US! A perfect size for me!
In the evening the whole family gathered together again at one of the Airbnb houses that had been rented for the weekend. We had a giant barbecue and enjoyed family time all evening. My uncle would have been pleased at us all being together. Reunions are always important!
