Bribie Island

This island is about an hours drive north of Brisbane. About 17,000 people live on the southern tip ( Bongaree) and the rest is National Park. We went back today and walked along the waterfront for a couple of hours with our BIL who lives there. Fish & Chips was the order of the day. I must say it’s very picturesque.

Tonight we are going to visit an old flat mate of mine who lives in the next suburb (coincidence). Lynn was with me when I met Bob while we were nursing in Sydney in 1974. We see each other every 10-20 years. We send Xmas cards but as we live over 1000km apart meeting is a rare event.

After staying in quiet peaceful places over the past few weeks this spot is a bit different. It caters as a family destination ( that means lots of families with lots of noise). Not our preference but it was organised as part of the birthday celebrations. Not complaining but what parent brings a toy ( meaning noisy) leaf blower for their kids to a place like this? Honest? The fathers are now organising the kids into races. A bit like the olympics.

Plans have changed again due to the COVID-19 Delta strain being nearby. All of the south east part of Qld needs to wear masks from tonight. We are due to return to NSW regional area where there are restrictions and only 5 are allowed to visit peoples homes. That means our beach camp with other family will be restricted to outdoors due to numbers and rain is predicted. Not a good combination. I don’t want to sit in the van for a week. So after another 2 nights here we are travelling south via Lismore and inland and get home at the end of the week. We are still 1165km from home.
