No 25, Northiam steams into Tenterden Town
A surprise visit to Tenterden this morning as my cousin John and his wife Avrill were visiting the railway as part of a coach holiday in Eastbourne. Today’s trip was to our railway, Thursday’s trip is to the Bluebell.
We haven’t seen the pair of them for at least three years, since our last cousins get together. There were twelve of us cousins, now down to 10, our ages range from 63 to 85. We did meet regularly and I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll ever get together again like we did in the past.
John volunteered as a Travelling Ticket Inspector on the Severn Valley Railway until ill health forced him to retire. He enjoyed the trip on the railway and a visit to the signalbox too.
They treated us to lunch at The Vine afterwards while we talked most of the afternoon away until it was time for them to catch the coach back to Eastbourne.
I’m back at Tenterden tomorrow. A short day as I think there’s only a two train service with a fish and chip supper train in the evenings.
Pretty much straight at home. Susan done the washing, tomato plants growing well as are the cucumbers. I wonder what the allotment is like?
