The sound of summer..

..is the mating call of the cicada male (which also serves to send off predators), that has an instrument incorporated in its abdomen, with loadspeakers and all, the socalled tymbal which is like a primitive string instrument. In summer, their chorus is louder than anything, a constant concert to be enjoyed without reserves.
But, you can only hear them from a far, for as soon as you approach the tree in which the cicada is producing its vibrating sound (it would be wrong calling it singing) it stops alltogether, very aware of the human presence. I had to approach the olive tree of the little fellow on the photo many times and examine every little branch of the tree in order to be able to find it (I was determined that I WAS going to find it), I think it camouflages very nicely (see extra)
