Sole survivor

My Golden Showers rose is usually covered with these lovely yellow blooms but not this year. There is a squirrel out there somewhere that has developed a taste for rosebuds, and you can see in the photo all the stalks that are all that remain of the uppermost blooms. The one that survives is away from the wall and presumably out of reach. Luckily they haven’t discovered the roses at ground level.
A beautiful summer day here enticed me out to do some pruning and dead heading.
