In The Shade

We've been driving down to Lake Padden Park the last few days to escape the heat. The off-leash trail under the thick forest canopy has lots of shade, and spectacular giant trees.

Hamish also likes meeting more dogs than on our neighborhood trail.

In the forest, nothing is wasted. Dead and dying trees nourish their replacements. This is an unusual occurrence where a bush is growing on top of a vertical decaying tree trunk. It's very common to see trees feeding on logs on the ground.  Those are called nurse logs.
