Artificial

We left work dead on 6 to get to the Turbine Theatre at Battersea Power station where Declan Bennett was performing a first public showing of his one man show, Boy Out The City.

Boy Out The City. A brand new intimate autobiographical one man show written and performed by Declan Bennett (Once, Jesus Christ Superstar, Fatherland, Kiss of the Spiderwoman). A story about the search for identity inside and outside of the big smoke and the love, loss and sexuality that shows up when you’re least looking for it.

It was lovely to be back at the Battersea Power Station complex. It’s still shiny and new and still being developed - and I have no idea what the artificial flowers symbolise - but we were back out with people attending a theatrical performance and that felt good. The Turbine Theatre was nicely socially distanced, there was a screen between us and the next people sat in the row and every other row had been removed. I don’t know what that was like from Declan Bennett’s perspective but it made the event seem all the more intimate.
