Path

The Island Coaster bus follows the Isle of Wight coast to Bembridge, then via Sandown, Lake, Shanklin and Ventnor before heading towards Freshwater and on to The Needles. It’s quite a long, 2-hour plus journey, but we got off at Freshwater Bay as we’d never explored that area before.  It was a beautiful afternoon and we grabbed a coffee while sat on a bench looking out at the bay.  It was very relaxing watching the water and enjoying the sunshine.

We then took a walk into Freshwater, stopping off at Dimbola Lodge to look at the Jimi Hendrix statue, and then along a disused railway line between Freshwater and Yarmouth.  On the way to the route we passed Teemill, the home of the Rapanui brand (PY was wearing one of their t-shirts).  We took 2 and a half hours to walk 6km, mainly along the route of the old railway line alongside the Western Yar. It’s popular with walkers are cyclists, and termites at, what used to be (until 1953), Yarmouth railway station. Today, it’s a cycle hire shop and restaurant, which does the most amazing fish finger sandwiches. Wholly recommended.
