St Mary the Virgin, Baldock

The parish church at Baldock is venerable. The east end of the chancel may be as old as 860 years, but much of the remainder was built about 1330. The font, which I've featured here before, pre-dates all of that and is thought to have been in continuous use for over a thousand years.

This shot was taken from the north west, looking directly up the tower. Standing at 130 feet to the top of the spire, The tower always been a prominent feature of the Baldock landscape. The lower part of the walls probably date back to the time of the earliest known church. The tower was restored in 2011 at the cost of around £800,000, £300,00 of which was met by the townsfolk.
