Victor Hugo and the octopus.
He wrote Travailleurs de la mer (Toilers of the Sea) while in his 15 year exile in Guernsey. In the book he describes The Combat with Octopus; at length. The shorter version is “To believe in the octopus, one must have seen it.
As I do I sat on the seat to take a selfie with Monsieur Hugo. Big mistake! The seat was seriously wet as my jeans now are.
There is light controlled pedestrian crossing to the side of the seat. It is placed so that at night especially if it has been raining, the reflection of the green light leads to the octopus. Plenty of thought has gone into this…
