Getting the sparkle back

Old Melrose

This is a lovely cafe in an old steading where T and I had lunch.

There was an abbey at Old Melrose founded around 650 AD which predates the abbey in the town of Melrose which was founded in 1136. St Cuthbert entered the old monastery as a novice in 651 AD before becoming prior in 661AD. He later became prior of Lindisfarne in 664 AD. There is very little left of the old monastery and you can't visit it - the owners of Old Melrose House have "Keep out - Private" signs up which I think would be unenforceable under the countryside access legislation but we didn't put it to the test.

We later went to Scott's View which looks onto the Old Melrose peninsula, although I hadn't realised this before. Here is a photo of it - it certainly is a splendid view.

Back-blipped from 5th July.
