It's a plant!

I realise that my title is somewhat vague, but I have no idea what this plant is called.

I was at Edinburgh University today and despite the cold, rain and snow I got out to take some pictures of the gardens. In the end I had some difficulty choosing what to blip and nearly went with one or two others, but decided to stick with my original choice.
