Propagation

Mrs madwill’s latest hobby is houseplants - our daughter has taken an interest too.

Between them they buy and propagate loads of different varieties - living rooms are full of plants!

One of the techniques involves taking cuttings - sometimes even just a leaf - and suspending them in little vases of water.

We currently have a little propagation station on our kitchen windowsill - which has three small glass vases in a wooden ‘hanger’. Periodically new cuttings appear - it has even been known for cuttings to arrive in the post - and then when roots have developed the little plants are moved on to proper pots!

Today I noticed these roots with light shining through from the window - I believe the plant is a ‘Christmas cactus’.

I tried various ways to photograph it, including lighting from below - and this is the best of a mediocre bunch!
