Which Side?
That could be which side of my face do you want for your photo.....or which side of the wall would you prefer me to be? Actually the cows were both sides and one positioned itself in the enclosed single person gate we were due to go through. Fortunately there was a stile round the corner. A lovely walk at Felbrigg this morning with G, JohnRH and W. This afternoon, as well as watching tennis, I fitted my new letterbox - not easy to do on my own as I was trying to push it from one side of the door as I screwed it in from the other!
Day 478 / Day 52 of Step 3 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
Globally, officially recorded deaths pass 4m. 32,548 new cases today, last time we saw this in a rising wave was just before xmas. Sir Keir Starmer warns of a 'summer of chaos and confusion', noting Sajid Javid's admission there could be 100,000 new cases a day within weeks. So I assume if a mild case lasts a couple of weeks, that means at least 1.4m with Covid at that time and say 60% are in work, that could be 840,000 off sick with their close contacts self isolating - could that be 3m off work at that time??? There is talk of people deleting the NHS Covid app to avoid being pinged - this isn't looking good! The PM today said that 'scientists are also absolutely clear that we have severed the link between infection and serious illness and death' - the other day is was only severely weakened. ONS data suggests that 9 in 10 adults in most parts of the UK are likely to have COVID antibodies. The UK's COVID genomic sequencing capability is being offered to support Brazil, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan. The Test to Release scheme of mass testing in Liverpool saw new cases drop by 21% compared with other areas and a saving of more than 3,200 staff days among key workers. Leeds teaching hospital trust is having to cancel cancer surgeries due to the number of COVID admissions. France is warning of a 4th wave due to the Delta variant.
