Windmill on the green!

This former windmill sits on Windmill Hill. It is Grade II Listed, being of architectural and historic interest built possibly in the early 1800s. The windmill is situated in an elevated view just off the village green at East Knoyle, Wiltshire. There is a strong local community here with a village shop and the famous architect Christopher Wren was born in the village in 1632 where his father was the vicar at the local church. Access to the windmill is over the green and common land surrounds it. The property is said to have lost its sails in about 1930 and now houses staircases to the first and second floor (staircase and new floors were installed in 1977), where glorious views over the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed. There is a cloakroom on the ground floor with water, electricity and drainage connected. The property has been maintained and improved by the present owner, who purchased it for £50,000, (well it was in our local paper for £50,000 in 2012!) and uses it as a studio, and for the occasional function where a marquee has been erected on the plinth. The rainy, grey day today doesn't do justice to the amazing views. Note to self: must come back when sun is shining!
