Diary of an Edinburgher

Scones!

Gym for JR, bike HIIT (sounds better) for me. Then JR took Archie for a big walk round the Meadows. Then we went into town to meet up with Zoe, leaving Archie with his bone.

The sun came out, and it was lovely in town - St Andrew’s Square was mobbed, as was all the outdoor seating in every pub/cafe/restaurant. But we had a plan - walk down the road to the Portrait Gallery. We all just wanted a cup of tea (and a scone) so it was perfect - plenty of space.

Caught up with all Zoe’s news - she’s on holiday now for 7 weeks (she’s a teacher). We didn’t go round the exhibitions, as by the time we’d finished yakking, I thought it best to head home. JR went to pick up something she’d ordered. The bus was just coming, so I got home and caught the whole of the second women’s semi-final.

This ‘person’ was lurking about outside - we’ll have to go back soon to see what it was all about. And to have lunch - the salads look good (as always).

Ah, the football… Yes, England were the better team. Raheem Stirling is a brilliant player, so he does not need to resort to cheating. And I won’t mention the booing during the Danish national anthem, or the laser light on the Danish goalie’s face as he faced the penalty. If a new COVID variant doesn’t manage to mutate in all these teeming football crowds (in Scotland as well) we’ll be very lucky. As the Danish press said - ‘We lost, but be thankful we live in Denmark’ (referring to the UK being the COVID hotspot of Europe, while Denmark has managed things much better, with only 2,538 deaths (UK 128,336) and currently 8 serious cases.)

He has a point…
