Fishing Fairies Win!

Today, I had to get up at Dairy Farmer O'clock at least that is what it felt like to be out at the boat ramp at 5.30am. It was the Reel Girls Fishing Competition, and our team were the Fishing Fairies. This is NOT what we wore fishing.

Anyway, there was a bit of a swell out on the harbour, and everything started off well, except we were only catching undersized snapper which we kept throwing back. The rolling of the waves ended up having a bit of an effect on me, and I spent most of the day alternating between fishing and puking over the side. Apparently bigger fish like the combination of coke with stomach acid! One of my team mates caught a rather large John Dory and another large snapper right after I provided that bit of burley. We had our best catches out by the Firth of Thames.

We were out from 5.30am until around 4pm, and ended up trying a number of spots around Waiheke Island. We tried for some Kingfish, but they weren't where we were.

We each caught 3 good sized snapper, one of the girls also caught her Dory and a blue Mao Mao. We didn't win any prizes for our fish though. For prizegiving, you are supposed to dress up your team. We were King Neptune and his fishing fairies. We had made our costumes last weekend. Our reward was $100 for being Best Dressed Team. We beat off the Construction Gals, the Flintstones, The Hula Girls and the Net Girls. I also won a spot prize with my ticket of some secateurs and a hat, plus was one of the 10 finalists for the $1400 Air NZ mystery weekend, didn't win but did walk away with a lovely bottle of wine. Michelle (King Neptune's wife) won a facial. So we did really well!

We finished our night by going back to Megan's place and having a spa, it felt so good after a long, and fun day.

Flat Stanley came out fishing with us, and had photos, but I had to use this one of the Best Dressed team.
