Rescued
Earlier today the seagulls started going bonkers. Even more bonkers than usual. It turned out that one of the chicks had decided it was time to fly. And instead of flying gracefully had fallen with a thud onto the roof, where it stayed. As Douglas Adams wrote,
"There is an art, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Clearly, it is this second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties"
Anyway, one of the neighbours spotted the stranded chick and called the RSPB who came and captured it. It had a damaged leg so they took it away to the bird hospital and once it's healed the gull will be released somewhere further down the coast, ready to learn how to steal chips from unsuspecting punters.
So now the parents are back to harassing the foxes and only have one chick to feed. Apparently that chick is likely to try the same escape in the near future. Let's hope it's better at missing the ground.
