Innocence
Diane and I bought this figurine 25 plus years ago in California. We liked this because of the tender way the child was hugging the cat. The sculptor, Isabel Bloom, was born in 1908. As a young girl, she fashioned small animals from clay dug along the banks of the Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa and baked them in the family hearth. While raising 3 young sons, she hosted a children's television program called "Let's Make Believe" where she used her clay figurines to illustrate the stories she told. A short art lesson concluded each program. Isabel's insightful observations of children became the driving inspiration of her career as a sculptor.
