Clint Hall

This morning we did one of our regular bike rides to Hampsthwaite to meet some friends for coffee and cake.
On the way back we climbed Clint Bank where we pass this old ruin standing prominently in a field near the top. I have often wondered if it has a history, so I blipped it then looked it up on the internet.
I discovered that Clint Hall was an ancient mansion and was the home of Sir William Beckwith. It was known to be habitable in 1544, it being mentioned in the will of Margaret Beckwith. All that remains are the two stone fragments. There was a moat around the mansion, of which some of the remains are just about discernible.
There's another image of it here looking back across the valley towards Birstwith.
