More than fire / Mehr als Feuer

It absolutely poured with rain all day. Some Germans say ‘Es regnet Schusterjungs’ (literally, ‘raining like cobbler boys’). Not clear to me, but then neither is cats and dogs!

So we spent the afternoon in the swimming pool. As we were leaving, the fire crew from this station opposite arrived in the changing rooms. It was certainly the day’s highlight for my little boy - and no doubt for several of the adults too!

I surmised that such a wet evening was unlikely to result in many fires to douse. But I was interested to see on their station crest that firefighting is only one of several things they help with - though again not entirely clear what the others are!
