National Service with the REME.

National Service is a concept much beloved by a certain type, this was two years of my dad's life stolen from him. 

As a qualified engineer and draughtsman he did top secret work drawing circles on maps depicting the various zones of destruction caused by various sizes of nuclear warheads. This work resulted in him not being sent to Suez for which he was grateful, instead he remained at Feltham. He refused a commission as this would have entailed a further year of service, for this he was designated non-desirous
