Common Lizard

A full day, with L riding Meg in the morning, where I came across this lizard sunning itself on a post next to the bridleway.

After a late lunch we went over to see L's god daughter  Alice, who has recently moved in to her first home with her boyfriend, Ollie.  We gave them our old lawn mower and Ollie immediately got to work cutting the lawns, front and back.  We had a lovely afternoon, meeting one of Alice's former work mates, Lydia, and then other members of the family turned up for an impromptu get together (outside of course).

Also known as the 'viviparous lizard', the common lizard is unusual among reptiles as it incubates its eggs inside its body and 'gives birth' to live young rather than laying eggs. Adults emerge from hibernation in spring, mating in April and May, and producing three to eleven young in July.
