A Two Dog Day

Dana and Jim came by with Blake today for their Saturday morning coffee. They came early at my suggestion as it was still reasonably cool. They were off to search for a standing towel rack for their newly remodeled bathroom (all but one sink and the bathtub, victims of the supply chain problems) so we offered to keep Blake here.

I was tempted to join them but wanted to watch yesterday's Tour de France which we missed because of our zucchini cook-off. By the time we sat down to watch Dana and Jim had gone and we realized that for unknown reasons yesterday's stage wasn't recorded. I wanted to see the Manx missile win his 34th sprint....Well done, Cav.

The menu for the aforementioned zucchini meal was:
Parmesan Crusted Zucchini Chips
Zucchini Ricotta pancakes
Chicken and Zucchini Burgers with Green Onion and Cumin (Jerusalem Cookbook)
Zucchini Bread

I had the inside table all set for dinner because it was so hot outside, but when we went outside to look at the umbrella we realized it had cooled off to a very pleasant temperature so we moved everything outside. It always makes me happy to be able to eat outside.

We've been pretty hunkered down inside today as the temperature crept up toward 100F. I took the picture through the living room window of the Santa Rosa Creek watershed newly revealed since so many bushes and trees have been cut. The hill is very steep and the burned trees show the path of the fire, but it sets off the profile of the undamaged trees, framed by what is left of our own oaks. The landscape has changed and I am trying to document not only the changes but the recovery. There's a way to go but the land is recovering in places.
