Second Solidarity Meditation
Again today we gathered with the Cambodian Buddhist community for a joint meditation between "heritage" Buddhists (born to the tradition) and "western" or "convert" Buddhists. This time we met at the Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple. It was the first time the group of Cambodians had ever seen a temple in a Japanese Buddhist tradition, and many were surprised to see how different the Zen aesthetic is from the Cambodian: and yet the teachings are the same, the practice of meditation is the same, the welcome and the open-heartedness is the same. We marvel at how much we have in common, and how, when we let go of our "views" of each other, we see each other more clearly as swimmers in the same stream of ethics.
