Living History

Sunny with periods of rain and very hot/humid. We had a lazy day other than a tiny bit of housework. My sister and BIL “firmed up” the bench that the kids gave me for Christmas and returned it today. Then granddaughter Lauren and Billy brought my birthday and Mother’s Day gift she’s had for months. More importantly, we got to see great-grand River. Both my sister and Lauren left with vegetables and berries. I enjoy visitors, we have so few. Later, we picked up Sky from driver’s ed and went to this historic church filled with vitality to get my blip since it was close by. “St. Francis Xavier Church is the oldest Catholic church in continuous operation from the original 13 English colonies. The community was established by the Jesuits as a mission in 1640, after the conversion of Chitomacon, the Piscataway King and erected as an independent parish in 1661. The marker near the front door lists Jesuit pastors. Hubby and Sky tried to hold a blanket to get rid of the shadows so I could get a crisp photo but the sun was just too high. We try to attend their annual Polish dinner and later their annual Christmas bazaar. The parish has a very active Knights council so hubby knows many of the parishioners. Sky had a few chores to finish at her house since everyone will be gone until sometime next week. We picked up a few groceries and household gadgets and then went to Panera, Sky’s favorite, for a salad, soup or sandwich meal. I plan to read until bedtime. “A Church’s vitality is not measured by how many people fill the pews, but rather by how much those people are filled with Jesus.” - Mark Wilson. Thanks for the visit, stars and kind words.
