Severn Valley Railway

03.07.21
It was so lovely waking up here this morning. I love opening the blinds as soon as we wake up and being able to see the view from our comfy bed! See extras although it doesn't do it justice!
Less lovely was the torrential rain which was so deafening first thing it actually woke me up. The forecast for the weekend is for sunshine and showers so as soon as it stopped raining I was straight outside with another cup of tea and my book. Lovely!
Nana and Papa had gone off to Bewdley early to see what bargains they could bag at the second hand stalls at the station.
Mr K did a fabulous job making bacon and egg baps for us all.
Miss L asked why it was a bap not a bun. Well because obviously it's a bun for a burger, a roll for pulled pork and a bap for bacon and egg. Duh!
When Nana and Papa got back we went for a walk down to the station for a look round. It's the 1940s weekend on the Severn Valley Railway this weekend but trains aren't stopping at Hampton Loade and we weren't sure if the station would be open.
It's the first time coming up for the 40's weekend that we haven't booked tickets for the trains. It would have been £210 for a carriage and in our state of perpetual skintness we decided against it.
Such a shame! But the station was open and we had a lovely couple of hours looking round and watching the trains. It really is like stepping back in time.
Then it was back up to the campsite for more lazing around looking at the view. Lovely!
Mum and I were sitting outside Marshall reading magazines and looking at dream houses on RightMove (for when we win the lottery later on) when I suddenly heard a strange roaring noise coming up the valley towards the woods between us and the river.
It got louder and louder and indescribably weird!
We stood staring towards the trees and watched as the leaves starting fluttering and the branches started whipping about.
And the sky went black.
No sooner we realised it must be rain than it started properly lashing it down.
I wish I could explain it better! I've never experienced anything like it, hearing an apocalyptic rainstorm approaching before seeing it.
We got soaked trying to get things under the awning before diving into the vans for cover.
And then, as soon as it had begun, it stopped again and the sun came out again. You could see the rain carrying on up the valley. Amazing!
The afternoon got more and more lovely, everything dried out and we had another BBQ feast before the Quarter Final, England v Ukraine.
There wasn't enough room for us all to watch together so we watched in Marshall and my mum and dad watched in their camper. We watched on iPlayer (see extras)and they watched on live TV and there was a three minute delay between their pictures and ours. We kept the blind shut so we didn't see their reaction to any goals or incidents. It was hilarious, every time we scored we opened the blind to see them beaming and waving at us! Four times!!!! Whoop whoop!!
4-0 and the most disconcertingly relaxing England game ever.
