From the sublime to the......

...Ford Edsel.
You may have seen my blip of the 15th March which featured the sublime Flying Spur, nurtured and produced by those finest of automotive craftsmen, the Bentley team at Crewe.
This Edsel is at the other end of the motoring spectrum.
Named after Henry Ford's son Edsel, it was launched in 1957 to a huge marketing hype, which focussed on its luxury, quality and technological innovation. Given that it was too expensive, that the quality of its manufacture was lacking, that it was launched in the midst of an economic downturn and that the dealers machanics were not trained to deal with its new technology, it is hardly surprising that it bombed and was an expensive failure.
Some people criticised its styling too, but I leave that for you to judge.
