After meeting a friend for lunch, I went back into work today for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Myself and another colleague who’s been working from home wanted to have a visit to see what things are like in the office at the moment and re-orient ourselves prior to returning later in the summer. My manager gave us a full tour of the office and the library, and it was interesting to see all the Covid restrictions that are currently in place. At present, the university plans to keep most of them until at least the end of August so we won’t be able to return to the office until then at the earliest, and we’re not sure what will happen after that. There were a couple of people in the office so it was very nice to catch up with them briefly face to face. There are normally 20 people in the office but due to social distancing, there can only be a maximum of 8 people at once so the rest are working from home at least half of the time, and 6 of us have been working from home permanently. It’s going to be very strange to go back but this was a start.
