The prodigal hydrangea
Around 4 or 5 years ago, I planted a climbing hydrangea against a fence in a shady spot. I looked forward to its white blooms glowing in the rather dark spot and kept an expectant eye on it each year. There was plenty of vigorous foliage, but never a flower. After a while I forgot about it.
Then the other day - there they were, several blooms glowing against the foliage, just as I'd originally hoped.
It may be that the very wet May we had here has given the plant what it needed. Or maybe it just needed time.
Either way, it cheered me up.
