Ermine

An ermine moth of some type, apparently there are at least 103 species which are...

"difficult to separate from similar species, even by genitalia examination" (!)

With days of calm, hot weather the ship is completely covered in millions of insects, mostly tiny midges, but also lots of moths attracted by the deck lights. So many that the bodies are piling up in and darkening every nook and cranny.
