The Galloway Hoard
We met our friends P and K at Soderberg Pavilion Cafe at Quartermile for morning coffee and Swedish buns. Great interesting chat with them, as usual, and all in the Edinburgh sunshine. We then headed off to the National Museum of Scotland to visit the Galloway Hoard exhibition. They had fabulous artefacts on display from the metal detectorist find in 2014. A tremondous amount of painstaking work has gone into the restoration of the 1000 year old objects. The photo is of a silver pectoral cross which has symbols on its arms representing each of the authors of the four gospels - apparently it's unusual for Christian objects to be in Viking-age hoards. We finished off our day at Victor Hugo's cafe just off the Meadows enjoying the sunshine and watching the world go by.
