Norway day 7
After a pleasant night on the campsite in Lesjverk in the Rauma valley, we had a sunny warm breakfast outside, and packed up a dry tent. Unfortunately I was covered in bites around the ankles and lower legs, even wearing socks and leggings outside the night before.
We drove the Rauma valley, which turned from a broad fertile tree lined space, into a very narrow gorge, with the huge steep walls of the granite Trollvegen, filled with the clear turquoise water of the Rauma river. We stopped many times to enjoy the waterfalls, then decided to go to a little peninsula to visit this gem of a stave church at Rodven. It’s from as early as 1300, but with some original features from 1150. It had no windows back then, just a few light holes, the windows were added much later. The Next Highlight was a trip into the Eikesdal valley, filled with a long lake, surrounded by steep sided granite cliffs. There was a lovely cafe, and really nothing else apart from a campsite for miles down there. After this diversion, we got on the main road to Oppdal and on to our friends in Soknedal, south of Trondheim. We were there by 8pm, in time to have a lovely dinner together, and to make plans for the next few days.
