Wound up in Wexford

Wild Ken Hill

We went on a butterfly walk at Wild Ken Hill.  The weather was hot and sunny, so we saw lots of butterflies, including a good number of silver wash fritillaries and several white admirals, but it was well nigh impossible to get photos as they were constantly on the move.   This pig, on the other hand, was taking things slowly.  I love the way that his ears provide him with a good sunshade.

Wild Ken Hill and Ken Hill Farm featured on BBC Springwatch this year.  They are rewilding an area, but also working the farm with regenerative farming techniques.  Included in this is that such animals as they have are just allowed to roam freely within the farm boundaries and graze at will.

After our tour we were thankful that we were not joining the endless procession of cars heading for the North Norfolk coast.  We had a coffee and snack, then headed south for a week away.  We did hit some problems on our proposed route due to road closures around Silverstone race track, but we negotiated these, and after stopping to recharge the car (and our caffeine levels) in Kidlington we arrived at our well set up AirBnb accommodation, and were able to enjoy our gins and a snack sitting out in the small garden.

It looks like we've chosen a week of hot weather for our break.
