Lavender festival

Saturday
As I was looking through Facebook yesterday evening, I saw that there was a Lavender festival this weekend, not too far away, near Georgetown, so despite it being another “iffy “ day, we decided to give it a try. We’d had rain over night and some more in the morning, but late morning when we left it had stopped. The festival was a bit disappointing, as the lavender wasn’t as brightly colored as I was expecting, and also, quite a number of the local vendors who’d signed up to come, had backed out because of the weather! This is a new venture for the family, and the first festival they’d had, and they told us next year they will hold it in June - they’ve realized July was a bit late, the fields were looking much better back in June. I’m sure it’s not been a great year for lavender, with more rain and less sun than usual. However, we came back with two clumps of lavender - it was pick your own - for a charge, they supplied you with scissors and a measured length of pipe cleaner and you could.pick as much as the pipe cleaner would fit around. We also came back with a couple of locally made jams. Parking was at a nearby church, and we were transported on a sort of hayride arrangement, a tractor pulling a trailer with hay bales for seats. We got back late afternoon, and after a cup of tea, went out to our local city of Montgomery Bastille Day celebrations - as we are twinned with a French town. Unfortunately the one good French restaurant that used to be a regular at this event has closed down, so there wasn’t much French about the food, except for one place selling crepes, but there was French wine! It was basically just a general food and live music event. There had been more rain forecast for the evening, but fortunately it stayed away, and it developed into quite a nice evening, and we enjoyed the eclectic food, French wine and music.
