OCTOPUS
Back at home again, Byron has shown Wilson this photograph of an octopus in a see-through ammonite shell.
Wilson thinks he looks, 'Well cute' and that with eight arms he'd be 'Really useful around the house!'
I give up: useful around the house – what, for all those little underwater tasks I find so taxing without struggling into my wetsuit and Scuba kit?
I suppose I can now look forward to months of pestering and trips to aquarium shops – but an octopus is an exotic creature – a sentient and intelligent animal with complex needs.
I honestly think Wilson will have to make do with his goldfish Diesel…

According to Nërp, the octopus' ancestors used to have shells like ammonites, but over the course of aeons ditched them so they could swim faster.
When Japanese designer Aki Inomata discovered this, he used his 3D printer to design and build a transparent ammonite shell for his pet octopus, Mersi. Once the shell was placed in his aquarium, Mersi moved in within a few minutes, and now lives in his see-through shell at MoMA. It is not known whether Momi – like Pauli the famous football-predicting octopus – is psychic…
