Male Emerald Damselfly
Yet another gloriously hot sunny day. We were up and out soon after 9am for a leisurely stroll around Risley Moss in search of dragonflies and butterflies. The butterflies were a little lacking, but we still clocked up 4 species - small white, speckled wood, red admiral and gatekeeper.
As for dragonflies, we saw one huge Emperor dragonfly doing circuits of the pond, but my camera was useless at focussing (or rather I was!), so I contented myself with the smaller less skittish damselflies of which there were quite a few. We saw the following species - azure, large red, blue tailed and this male emerald damselfly which I thought was quite nice and a bit unusual for us to see.
On the way around we also found a couple of black darters resting on the boardwalk, which are quite small(extra) at just over an inch long.
Back home and having another lazy day - might do a bit more in the garden when it cools down later.
