RIP Sgt Steve Figgins REME
Sgt Steve Figgins was a veteran of Desert Storm, and other conflicts, with the REME.
His funeral was today, at Cheltenham Crematorium, where we stood Guard of Honour for him, 8 of us from Royal British Legion Riders Branch.
The collage is us congregated at Sainsbury's car park in the Battledown area of Cheltenham. We escorted the hearse from the road up to the Crematorium where the funeral director was outside the door. Lined up, 4 a side, and one of our group called us to attention and we saluted as the coffin passed by us.
We didn't stay for the funeral itself, it isn't really appropriate, we just want to pay our respects to a fallen soldier and veteran.
There's always some humour at a funeral, of course. As I was walking from the car park I was with an old chap walking with a cane and a younger lady, probably a granddaughter. He said that Steve was his son, I said how sorry I was he had passed away. "The worst thing is" he replied "He was my IT man, don't know what I'll do now"! He was in good spirits, masking his obvious grief. Made me feel sad and I said how I'm getting to be in the same boat, relying on Daniel nowadays for my IT problems.
RIP Sgt Figgins.
