Silver studded Blue

On this very hot day I was out with the local walking group.  Fortunately the walk was a short one of 5 miles with many of the paths passing through shaded woodland.  We started from Newton Poppleford and headed west along the East Devon way onto the edge of Harpford and Aylesbeare Common.  There were many different butterflies flitting around in the sun Meadow Browns, Gatekeepers, Fritillaries various Whites and more excitingly what is thought to be a Silver studded Blue, they are relatively scarce.  At this point where several of us held back to get a closer view the rest of the group scampered ahead.  We ended up loosing them for a few minutes but soon found them.  We eventually ended up in Venn Ottery a very small village with a church, St Gregory's that has a 15th Century tower.  From here we scampered  along very small wooded pathways, along the edges of fields and down small lanes back to our starting point.

A lovely walk and good to see many walking friends that I had not seen for a very long time.
