One Finnish summer tradition is carpet washing on the lake. For this purpose, a unique type of docks has been developed to for carpet washing. This local carpet dock has now reached the end of its lifecycle and will no longer be repaired, but will be dismantled in the near future. New, more environmental friendly carpet washing sites have been built on land and connected to the municipal sewer system.
Local visual artist Viivi Kiiskinen generated an idea of a fun public work of art in memory of the carpet dock and painted all the light poles of the area in bright colors that resemble a hand-woven carpet.
