Monsieur Cormorant in his Breeding Plumage.
We stopped at the gravel pit lake this morning, to feed the birds. I was amazed to see 3 female cormorants and this very big male sitting on the shore as cormorants are not usually on small stretches of water. The girls flew off when I left the car but monsieur just sat still, looking very handsome, while I crouched behind a bush snapping away. Looking in the bird book, could he be a "Continental" form? This was a lucky break today as it has been raining and snowing all day. Thanks to the blip fairy.
Large is more regal!
