Holograms and grief

Evan and Bella spent Wednesday with me while their parents were both working. They understand that an aunt they have never seen has died. We talked about Palesa briefly; I showed them my blurb book of pictures of her. Thoughtful as ever, Evan felt it would be a good idea to bake cookies. In the afternoon somehow we found ourselves at a store that sells a gadget that creates holograms of anything you put in a niche between two curved mirrors. The tree frog you see isn't really there.

I held myself together for their visit, but the minute after they left, I was sobbing. Grief will not be put off for long.
